Central Jakarta is famous for its glamorous retail shops, such as Grand Indonesia or Plaza Indonesia. If you walk further, you will find the most exciting and exotic traditional Indonesian fashion in Thamrin City. This fashion is none other than batik, which has become a staple of Indonesian culture. Thamrin City itself is a traditional Indonesian superstore located on Thamrin Boulevard, Central Jakarta in the Jakarta capital special district.
As you enter Thamrin City, the scent of textiles greets you. On the first floor, you will find several Javanese batik vendors that sells clothes, housewares, accessories, and even blankons. Blangkon which is a traditional Javanese head cover for men priced approximately 4-5 USD. Several of the batik clothes priced approximately 10-15 USD each.
You will see the most colorful view of fabrics from all the Batik vendors on the 2nd floor. They sell batik with simple and elegant motifs. You will also find traditional and modern batik patterns from different tribes of Indonesia. These varieties makes the store look vibrant.
After strolling around the store, you will find souvenirs and home decorations on the 3rd floor. The price of home decorations is around 70-300 USD. These decorations are several Wayang characters and one of Indonesia famous landmarks such as Monas monument. Wayang is a Javanese traditional leather puppet. You will also find Indonesia's national logo, Garuda Pacasila as a wall decor.
In conclusion, you can go to Thamrin City if you want to buy traditional Indonesian souvenirs or batiks. You can find any variety of batik at affordable price in this mall. You could negotiate a price to get a good bargain. This mall is a good place to purchase gifts and souvenirs for your friends and family.
